When measuring for a child's Western saddle, have them sit down in a chair. Once seated, use a measuring tape to measure the length of their upper leg from the knee to their rear. The saddle should be about 10% longer than the child's upper leg. For example: If the child's leg measures 9 inches, then the child's Western saddle should be 10 inches.
There is a lot of room for personal preference with seat sizing, but as a general rule it is better to error on the side of ordering a seat size that is too large rather than erring on the side of a seat that will be too small.

There is a lot of room for personal preference with seat sizing, but as a general rule it is better to error on the side of ordering a seat size that is too large rather than erring on the side of a seat that will be too small.
Things to Consider
- Tucker adds 1/2inch to their seat sizes (due to thick seat padding)
16.5” Tucker = 16” normally
- Barrel riders usually take 1” less on the seat size
16” Trail Rider = 15” Barrel Rider
- Ranch (slick seats) usually ride smaller (1/2inch seat size) so they don’t slide around
16” is for most men, 15” for most women
- Trail Saddles with High Cantles (5”) make the seat sizes feel smaller
Trail Saddle with 5” cantle will feel smaller in the seat than one with a 3.5” cantle
- English Saddles don’t convert exactly but often are 2” bigger
18” English = 16” Western
- Riders with inseams under 30” or 5’ tall and under often need custom cut fenders
Tall riders with long legs but lighter weight may need custom cut fenders as well

LOVE this saddleLove this saddle! First time I sat in it I felt like I was at home. I have back issues and I have been riding in this saddle an hour at a time with no problem whatsoever. The narrow twist is just exactly what I needed. My pad slid at first. I put tacky too pad on the horse with a 1/2 wool Pad on top of the tacky too and then the saddle. No slipping at all!!

Comfy saddle Very comfortable saddle first ride. Easily became my favorite saddle to ride. Did have issue with wool and felt saddle pads constantly sliding out the back underneath the saddle. Tried CSI, 5 star and Best ever wool/felt padssame issue with all and on 2 different horses1 with high withers and 1 flatter backed. Changed to fleece pad and no more slipping. I would buy this saddle again but with a fleece type or sheepskin type material underneath not with the non-slip material this one has. Very pleasant experience working with horse saddle shop. Shipping was quick. I will buy more saddles from them in the future.

The most comfy saddle I have ever ownedI already have a Julie Goodnight Circle Y Tetpn Trail which I love. I didn't think it could be bettered but this saddle is even better and so comfy straight out of the box. It's a perfect fit for horse and rider. The flex tree system and padded seat take all the shock & impact out of travelling across rough country, especially good for a more mature rider. Do not care for the cheapy conchos. If you want to replace them, know that you cannot do so with saddle concho on a wooden screw. The saddle rides awesome, but does feel slightly wider than many others. If you bought the wide tree but feel that you could have just a little better fit on a broad shouldered horse. Try a 5star felt pad. The 3/4" made the saddle fit perfectly on my big horse. Overall, I'm very pleased.

This saddle is great and has held well over timeBought this saddle three years ago for a fourteen year old girl. She has ridden in it five days a week for the whole time. This saddle still looks great. It is arena beautiful and trail ride practical. It has moulded perfectly to the horse and fits home exact. It is only used on the one horse. As a parent this saddle was worth every penny spent and looks gorgeous on our Thoroughbred.

Beware! Dont waste your money!Ive had this saddle now for several months. Right out of the box I noticed some of the stitching was already coming apart. The seat is very comfortable for the rider but feels very wide compared to my other saddles. The stirrups still require break in period and definitely still need the broom stick to get the twist in them. Another reason that I am disappointed with this saddle is that it continues to slide forward every time! For the price of this saddle I am very disappointed and wish that I had saved my money to buy a better saddle.

Love this saddleThe Julie Goodnight Monarch Saddle does not disappoint. I can honestly say that the pictures on-line don't do it justice. It is the right fit for my horse and super comfortable for both of us. The saddle does deliver on quality and craftsmanship.. Love this saddle! Would buy it again!Due to an injury, I had to switch from riding english to western. This saddle allows me sit western dressage, or hack around out on trail. All 3 of my horses move out very well with this saddle, and I can ride for hours and I'm not fatigued at all. Super comfy! My only complaint was the leather underside: the saddle pad seemed to move a bit. But I found a very thin no-slip liner, so problem solved!

I would NOT buy this saddle againThis saddle is comfortable for rider and horse, HOWEVER, every pad and blanket I use under this saddle slides right out the back!! Nice looking saddle but!Bought this product looking for a lighter weight saddle and comfort for my knees. This meets both of those needs with the added pleasure of a comfortable seat on long rides. Did not like that the seat leather wrinkled after only 3 rides, and with the added foam in the seat makes me sit a little more forward of my center of balance. Is this just a period of adjustment or does the foam press down a little after more wear? If not I would suggest ordering a half size larger.

The stirrups are not pre-turned.I ordered this saddle and waited the 2 months to get it. The stirrups were not pre turned as described. Had to put a board through them just like any other saddle I had bought through the years to train the leather to ease stress on knees. Don't know why they advertise something they don't do.
