Fit well style is nice, leather is cheap. The saddle ACTUALLY Fit my extremely round with no wither large pony/appaloosa cross. I was pleased to find out it was all about the BAR ANGLE, and not so much the tree size although he is a wide/extra wide (8 gullet). So if you are having trouble fitting your horse, try experimenting with the bar angle. I finally gave the Halflinger saddle a try because nothing at my local tack shop was fitting well regardless of wide or extra wide. So happy with the fit. HOWEVER, the leather is kinda cheap and I am not too happy with the comfort of the seat. I do like that it came with the back cinch.

Dakota Halfinger I absolutely love this saddle. Been riding in it for about a month. It fits both my 14.2, 15hh gypsy cross fillies perfectly. It fits my sons 13hh round pony, and it fits my round backed gaited boy if I add an extra 1/2 inch pad. Perfect sweat mark from the first ride.
The seat is super comfortable. Maybe the most comfortable Ive sat in.
I will say while the saddle seems very well made it is quite stiff out of the box. Really stiff even for a new saddle. I soaked my fenders (after a couple positive fit sessions) in a water bucket to turn them. Fenders turned like butter. I also soaked the back of the skirts to keep them from sticking up which worked wonders. After a month of riding and a couple oilings, this saddle is tremendously comfortable for me and I believe my horses. Will definitely be ordering another one in roughout. Love love it.

Gorgeous saddle I finally found a saddle that fits my very round/stocky qh paint. The major downfall is how uncomfortable this saddle is and how stiff/squeaky the leather is. I personally wouldn't recommend it as there are way better made saddles out there. I'm only keeping it because it fits my horse like a glove.

Hard seatseat is way too hard, stirrup fenders are too long, I am 5'6 and I have to have the stirrups on number four from the top, which in turn makes it hard to put the straps around the fender because not much narrow fender down by the stirrups. I which now i would have gotten something different. I needed an extra wide tree.They had this one in stock to order one made it is an 8 to 10 week wait.

All the ooo's and aaah's I think this is the best fit I'm going to find for my buddy. Everyone goes, wow that is a really nice looking one! Wow it was half the price of a tucker or other brand? Used for a couple if rides so far and trying to break it in. Seat is very cushioned!

Cons:I'm 5'1 and I have my stirrups on the shortest hole and it might be too long. I wish a few more holes punched in fenders for short folks like me.

Nice SaddleThis is the first new western saddle I've ever purchased, and I'm happy with it thus far. Seems to fit my wide, short-backed mustang better than the FQHB saddles I've tried. Definitely good looking, and keeping my fingers crossed for it's long-term durability!

Just RightIt's taken awhile to find the perfect saddle for me and my tanky haffy. I needed something fairly light weight but still solid. The Dakota fit the bill,at just about 30lbs. it is good weight for me to lift. It's good thick leather was a relief as I've seen saddles with paper thin leather that scared the heck out of me. I had this saddle customized with a hard seat for better feel with my horse and they did an amazing job on it. I would definitely recommend this saddle for anyone with a tanky built horse with short flat back like Haflingers.

Wrangler Approved!I had a hard time finding a saddle that would fit my stocky, short-backed mustang mare AND my long legs--this one fits us both perfectly. We spent a summer leading trail rides at a guest ranch in the Montana mountains, and I sometimes put 22+ hours a week in this saddle. It stayed in place going up and down extremely steep grades (I use a breastcollar for extra stability) and doesn't shift side-to-side like the other saddles I tried on her. In addition, it fit the other QH-type and draft-cross ranch horses I used. Now that we're home, I use it mainly for flat trails and work in the arena. It's light, but good quality--I've had it for two years now and it's held up great. I've gotten a lot of compliments on how nice it looks, too! The leather is stiff and squeaky at first, and the back cinch is really long (it fit the draft crosses with no problem--I punched more holes in the billets so it would fit my 14.3 mare.) But those are easily fixed, and far outweighed by all the good points of this saddle. I had never heard of the Dakota brand before buying this saddle, but I would definitely recommend it now. I also have to thank Horse Saddle Shop for great customer service--the Haflinger saddle I ordered before this one fit my horse, but the seat curved around in a way that dug into my thigh. When I called about an exchange, the man offered to pull this saddle and compare the shape of the seat to the one I returned. He made the exchange process very easy, and I'm very happy with this company as well as this saddle!

Great saddleI searched for a saddle to fit my horse that also had a seat to fit me. This fit the bill. It fits and rides beautifully, but the leather takes some conditioning. It is a little unwieldy to carry because it feels front heavy. For the most important aspects I would definitely buy again. Fit for me and horse, and comfort to ride in.

It Fits!!!used for trail riding. fits my wide shouldered gelding great! easy to oil & turn fenders. like the tooling. would be really sharp if upper skirts were stitched to lower. rear cinch could be 5" shorter so it's not hanging so loose. I would buy this saddle again!Bought this saddle for my husbands big mutton withered gelding, as with a lot of Haflingers we had a terrible time finding a saddle to fit him, well after a 4 day camp out this weekend with about 15 hours in this saddle both my husband and his horse LOVE this saddle! Warrior was much happier and never got grumpy because the saddle was slipping or pinching and my husband also commented on how comfortable it was. These trails were not flat we had a lot of rough and steep climbs and down hill, this saddle never slid at all! I will be getting one for my gelding in the near future.

Dakota Haflinger SaddleI love my Dakota Haflinger saddle. We tried over 30 different full quarter saddles & Asia my Certified Saddle Fitter was not satisfied any fit Chy-Ann, my Haflinger, as they should. She has the wide but short back & no withers. Finally I found my 15" on eBay & grabbed it. As soon as it was on her back Asia confirmed it was the one. It's incredible comfortable both for her & me. I only wish they did a breast collar to match with no basket weave - which I hate! So the hunt is still on for the collar. Mine didn't come with strings so I had to add them. If you have a Haflinger this is the only saddle for you.

I Love this Saddle!I have an appaloosa mare who is VERY wide at the withers and even my widest saddle with a Wade tree didn't fit her comfortably. I made the cardboard templates from this website and was surprised to learn she needed a Haflinger saddle. It fits her beautifully and I have less ear-pinning (she is a mare!) and she offers to move out much more fluidly and it stays put on steep trails without a breast collar or britchen.

Great fit for HaflingerI use this saddle for trail and western dressage. I knew it was a great fit when I could ride steep trails without a crupper or britchen! Also had a major spook that threw me off balance but saddle did not slip! Try this saddle if you have a Haflinger with little or no withers and a flat back. The bar angle really allows the saddle to "sit" well on the horse.

15in Dakota Haflinger SaddleI love this saddle, very comfy, however it does not fit my haflinger. It is too tight in the shoulders, and it bridges. I ended up going completely custom for him. I have been using it on my standardbred and it works very well for her. I did not expect it to fit at all, she is quite lightly built, and a little uphill. I have had a couple of different saddle fitters who I trust double check for me, and the fit is good, she moves well with it. It is a little squeaky,but that will reduce with use. A very beautiful saddle that I would recommend, just don't assume it's going to fit!

Finally!!I've finally found a saddle for my wide backed, mutton-withered MFT mare! This is my second Dakota saddle, both ordered through Horse Saddle Shop and I have yet to be disappointed. I changed a couple things on the saddle and it arrived quickly (approx 5 weeks), exactly as ordered, and it was packaged better than any other saddle I've purchased. Since I own a Dakota saddle and am happy with the quality and fit, we decided to give their Haflinger saddle a try. It is a beautiful, well-made saddle, and fits the Haflinger nicely. The saddle was available in several color stains. The one we chose had to be special ordered, but came in 2 weeks ahead of schedule (which is always a pleasant surprise!).
