Tammy Fischer Medium Horn Remuda Signature Treeless Barrel Saddle 1317

Made In The USA

This treeless barrel saddle was designed in collaboration with Tammy Fischer for racers who want freedom to move (stand up) in the saddle without feeling constrained by the security of a typical barrel saddle, and also is made with a higher horn profile.

The treeless saddle givers you extra stick with roughout fenders and flap. Designed with a beautiful Turquoise patina copper cots and slotted conchos. Accessorized with short strings that are made out of rich chocolate leathers.

The fleece lined neoprene skirt keeps your saddle secure and, over time, forms to your horse's configuration.

A laid back cantle and low profile swell provide the freedom that this saddle is known for while forward hung stirrups allow the rider to keep their feet from getting behind.

This model comes with the taller 3" horn. For a shorter 2.5" horn option, see our 1316 model.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by "tree free"?

Traditional saddles are built on a tree-the skeleton of the saddle. They consist of a swell and cantle, connected by a pair of bars. The bars make contact along the sides of the horse's back, distributing the rider's weight. Just-B-Natural and Tree Free saddles have a swell and cantle, but no bars.

What are the benefits of a treeless saddle to the horse?

Because most bars are rigid, they may hinder the horse's ability to bend and flex comfortably. And, if the tree does not fit properly, the horse may develop soreness, white spots, poor performance and a bad attitude. Because the Tree Free saddle has no bars, saddle fit is not an issue. The materials utilized in the design of the skirt help distribute the rider's weight, and the skirt is flexible enough to conform to your horse's shape, allowing him to move freely.

What are the benefits of a treeless saddle to the rider?

The Tree Free saddle allows the rider close contact and to really feel the horse. Because the bulk of the saddle tree has been eliminated between horse and rider, the horse can be more responsive to seat and leg cues. The Tree Free saddle still has a swell, cantle, and seat assembly, so the rider has the security of a traditional saddle, with even greater comfort.

What are Softee seat jockeys and fenders?

It's a 2-ply leather that has a nice, broke in feeling, right out of the box. By using Softee leather on the fenders, we eliminate the break-in time of traditional stiff leather fenders (no broomstick needed), making this saddle a lot easier on the knees and ankles.

What's a 3-way rigging and how do I use it?

The 3-way adjustable rigging lets you change the position of the rigging to a full (front dee), and (rear dee) or 7/8 (using both dees) by changing the use of your tie strap. This means you can find the rigging position that works best for your horse and style of riding.

Western Saddle Seat Size Calculator

*NOTE FOR CHILDREN OR YOUTH SIZES SMALLER THAN 14" When measuring for a child's Western saddle, have them sit down in a chair. Once seated, use a measuring tape to measure the length of their upper leg from the knee to their rear. The saddle should be about 10% longer than the child's upper leg. For example: If the child's leg measures 9 inches, then the child's Western saddle should be 10 inches.

Calculated Seat Size:

There is a lot of room for personal preference with seat sizing, but as a general rule it is better to error on the side of ordering a seat size that is too large rather than erring on the side of a seat that will be too small.

Things to Consider

  • Tucker adds 1/2inch to their seat sizes (due to thick seat padding)
    16.5” Tucker = 16” normally

  • Barrel riders usually take 1” less on the seat size
    16” Trail Rider = 15” Barrel Rider

  • Ranch (slick seats) usually ride smaller (1/2inch seat size) so they don’t slide around
16” is for most men, 15” for most women

  • Trail Saddles with High Cantles (5”) make the seat sizes feel smaller
Trail Saddle with 5” cantle will feel smaller in the seat than one with a 3.5” cantle

  • English Saddles don’t convert exactly but often are 2” bigger
    18” English = 16” Western

  • Riders with inseams under 30” or 5’ tall and under often need custom cut fenders
Tall riders with long legs but lighter weight may need custom cut fenders as well

Checking the Fit

  • General Guideline is about 3 fingers between your thigh and the swell.
